What is the ECHO Family Study?

The ECHO Family Study is a study on how environmental factors (like diet, exercise, and chemicals found in the environment) affect children’s growth and development. This study is part of a nationwide research program called ECHO, or Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes. This program will combine information from about 50,000 children and their families at 200 locations nationwide to help researchers answer questions that the ECHO Family study cannot answer alone. ECHO will follow about 10,000 participants who already had a pregnancy, to look at things that happen before they may become pregnant again.

Why did we invite you?

You are eligible for the ECHO Family Study since you are the current partner of a formerly pregnant person enrolled in ECHO. ECHO is interested in understanding both parents’ exposures, so we ask you to join ECHO as well.

What does participation involve?

When the infant enrolled in the ECHO Family Study is between 6-11 months, we will enroll current partners. Study activities include completing research visits and online surveys. Surveys include questions about jobs, medical history, and other environmental exposures. If eligible, at the time of the clinic visit we will collect biospecimens like saliva, urine, or semen. For your participation, you will receive up to $50 in Target electronic gift cards for completing study activities ($25 for surveys and $25 for specimens).
