What is the ECHO Family Study?

The ECHO Family ​​​study is a study on how environmental factors (like diet, exercise, and chemicals found in the environment) affect children’s growth and development. This study is joining forces with a nationwide research program called ECHO, or Environmental influence​​s on Child Health Outcomes. This program will combine information from about​ 50,000 children and their families at 200 locations nationwide to help ​researchers answer questions that the ECHO Family study cannot ​answer alone.

Why did we invite you?

You are eligible for the ECHO Family Study since you are pregnant and receiving prenatal care at a Kaiser Permanente ​East Bay medical center. Your participation in the ECHO Family Study is especially valuable because the data you provide during and after pregnancy can help in understanding children’s health.

What does participation involve?

Study activities include completing research visits and online surveys twice during your pregnancy (2nd and 3rd trimesters), twice during your baby’s first year of life, and then annually until the study ends. For your participation, you will receive up to $200 in gift cards during each study time point. ​For example, you will receive $100 for completing the Early Pregnancy surveys and $100 for completing the Early Pregnancy clinic visit, totaling $200 in gift cards for the Early Pregnancy research activities.
